The FDA’s acceptance of Brachman’s 1950s anthrax research: Good politics? Maybe. Good science? No.

In December 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released its Final Order on anthrax vaccine, declaring it to be 92.5 percent effective for preventing both inhalation and cutaneous anthrax infections.

Interview with Boyd E. Haley: Biomarkers supporting mercury toxicity as the major exacerbator of neurological illness, recent evidence via the urinary porphyrin tests

In the recent past, several biological finds have supported the hypothesis that early exposure of infants to Thimerosal was the major exacerbation factor in the increase in autism-related disorders since the advent of the mandated vaccine program. These initially included the observations of a genetic susceptibility impairing the excretion of mercury and the increased retention of mercury by autistic children.

The Cancer Vaccine Market: Insights Into Our Health Care Priorities

Sometimes a bit of research so well illuminates the gestalt of our times and provides such keen insight into our world’s terribly twisted health care priorities that you can’t help but share it. Landing with a thud in my email inbox recently, a missive from the financial analysts at Espicom, a company providing “information solutions to the medical devices and pharmaceutical markets,” invited me to take a glimpse into some research they had pulled together — a peek into the health care crystal ball for the low price of (US) $1,995.

Influenza Vaccination During Pregnancy: A Very Bad Idea

“Influenza vaccination during all trimesters of pregnancy is now universally recommended in the United States. We critically reviewed the influenza vaccination policy of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) and the citations that were used to support their recommendations.” Thus began the abstract to a paper by David Ayoub, MD, and me, which was just published in the summer issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.

Mumps: Here And There And Everywhere

In spite of superior MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination rates, small epidemics of mumps have occurred in distant areas. During a recent outbreak in the U.S. Midwest, college students did not seem interested in receiving additional doses of MMR vaccine. Mumpsvax, the monovalent mumps vaccine, may have been a better option.

Pneumococcus: Penicillin to Prevnar

The abuse of penicillin and other antibiotics has led to the proliferation of resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus). The wide use of Prevnar, a pediatric pneumococcal 7-valent conjugate vaccine, since 2000 is now resulting in problems that could have been anticipated and should now be disclosed.

New Concerns About Tamiflu

Today, the pediatric advisory committee of the Food and Drug Administration met to discuss new reports of serious skin reactions, neuropsychiatric events and deaths associated with taking Tamiflu, Roche’s drug for treating influenza. According to IMS Health, approximately 24.4 million prescriptions for Tamiflu (oseltamivir) were dispensed in Japan between 2001 and 2005; about one-fifth that number — 5.5 million — were filled in the U.S. during the same period. Pediatric prescriptions accounted for 11.6 million in Japan versus 872,386 in the U.S.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield Is Being Blamed For The Decline In Measles, Mumps And Rubella Vaccination In The UK. But That’s Not What Really Happened. The Trend Started Years Before He Published His Initial Research On Regressive Autism

In 1998, Dr. Andrew Wakefield identified a new bowel disorder in children with regressive autism, and suggested a possible link between MMR vaccination and autism. He also called for more research. Since then, the health authorities in the United Kingdom have put forth much energy, and in excess of £3 million, trying to defend the image of the triple vaccine instead of investigating the causes of the documented autism epidemic. In addition, the UK Department of Health (DOH) has insisted that only the MMR vaccine be made available. This has forced parents, who are concerned about the safety of the triple vaccine, to privately purchase (if they can afford them) monovalent vaccines for their children, or to forgo vaccination altogether. The stand that the DOH has chosen to take goes against its own directive in “Immunization against Infectious Disease 1988”: “For children whose parents refuse MMR vaccine, single antigen measles will be available.”

Vaccination, Rubella And Congenital Rubella Syndrome

Separating Fact From Fiction

The health authorities have insisted that the monovalent vaccines against measles, mumps and rubella would not be made available in the United Kingdom. By doing so, they have effectively forced parents who had serious concerns about the MMR vaccine not to vaccinate their children altogether. As vaccination rates fell and the threat of measles outbreaks became real, the health authorities blamed Andrew Wakefield and his research. Obviously no one mentions the fact that Dr. Wakefield has always supported measles, mumps and rubella vaccination of toddlers and that he has only suggested that the monovalent vaccines be made available, alongside the MMR vaccine, just to give parents a choice.

The HIV Vaccine Does Not Work On Anyone, Period!

I told you so. I told you so in the scientific literature.
I told you so on the internet. I told you that an HIV vaccine
                  would never work.

This week, the long-awaited results from an independent trial
of the world’s best hope for stopping AIDS with a vaccine
have shown it to be a failure, disaster, catastrophe, folly,
